Architect and designer Lars Vejen became “Designer of the Year” 2018 in the Design Awards 2018. The Designer of the Year award and a number of other awards were presented by H.R.H. Crown Princess Mary of Denmark at Bellevue Teatret north of Copenhagen. Behind the design awards are Bolig Magasinet, Bo Bedre, Costume Living and Nordic Living.
Lars Vejen has demonstrated in the finest way that he is a versatile designer. He works on both a large and small scale, drawing everything from door handles, front doors and acoustic ceilings to the most beautiful and aesthetic designs for the home.
He balances the line between industrial design and gallery objects and, with his holistic approach to the subject and craft, has excelled in particular this year.
He manages to combine the best of the Danish and Japanese design tradition, and whether it is ceramics or lamps — or for that matter outdoor furniture — the degree of detail is very high and the understanding of materials is top notch.
Lars Vejen is awarded the Designer of the Year award tonight because he works uncompromisingly, courageously and independently — and because one man manages to put up exhibitions both at home and in Japan. Not many others have that span today.
